MADE Insitu Event Campaign

Project Brief

This project requires you (in partners) to design an event communication piece, system or method that will inform and/or educate an audience about the 2023 season of MADE’s architecture tours, In Situ.

Approach

Our approach was based on our conversations with MADE. We understood from them that they were most concerned with connecting to a larger community.

Therefore we wanted to focus on that with our event series. This would be done by creating more engagement around the events, diversifying the group of guests, and gaining greater guest retention.

We created an experience for the guests of this campaign. They would see a poster, be sent to the Insitu website, and get a field book to collect stickers from each event, and these stickers would then take them to the archives mobile webpage.

The field book would incentivize guests to attend multiple events. The webpage will make it easy to filter events based on the guests’ needs and thus diversify the group.

My Role

Focused on User Experience with the Digital Aspects of the Series.

Speaking with MADE

We had the pleasure to speak with Myriam Bigras (Secretary), Jillian Richards (Board Member), and Katelynn Schutz (Board Member) from MADE.

They touched on MADE’s overarching goals and mission, but more specifically, they explained the importance of INSITU events in Edmonton’s design and art community. INSITU is a way to bring designs to life. It gives creators the opportunity to connect people with their projects by bringing them into the designed spaces,

Surprises

I was personally surprised by the goals of MADE and their INSITU series. I have always assumed that MADE’s focus was on architecture in Edmonton. Though that was their intent upon creation, they are currently looking to implement more visual art and design.

MADE’s Current Website

https://joinmade.org/

MADE stands for Media Architecture Design Edmonton. This is a summary of their goals as discussed in meetings and with additional research through attending an INSITU event.

This is a proposed website for the INSITU series. A home page for the series would help reach the previously discussed goals. This would introduce users to INSITU by allowing them to learn about the series and see its goals. Additionally, they would be able to signup for newsletters.

Users of this website would be able to view, share, and purchase tickets to upcoming events. There has been the addition of event filters to encourage the diversity of the event attendees. A user would be able to filter for all ages and free events if they so choose. This allows for further inclusion if they are not able to pay for an event or would like to bring children.

The Archives Section ensures that no one is missing out. One of the goals of this series is to promote learning. That is why it is essential for all of these events to keep a record. That way, whether you have just discovered the series or missed one, you can learn all about it later in this section.

This is an example of The Archives mobile application for one event. It would be a summary of the key learnings.
