Night-Time Skin Care Routine
Project Brief
Select a task and design instructions that will allow someone you know to perform it. The task should not be too easy—in other words, instructions should be needed. You must be able to perform the task and ensure that the materials/objects required for your “user” to perform the task (with the help of the instructions) are available.
Approach & Rationale
The task I chose was a night-time skincare routine. For many, a multi-stepped skincare routine can be daunting. There are many products marketed, and it is hard to know which ones you need, let alone how to use them. Therefore, my instructions aim to help new skincare user tackle their nighttime routine.
Outcomes
My solution introduces the products needed for a nightly skincare routine. It then steps by step walks the user through the process, explaining the application and order of each product. I had a friend unfamiliar with a skincare routine walk through the process with my instructions. They managed to complete it.
Learning Outcomes
This project taught me to be clear and concise when creating instructions. I kept adding additional information that was interesting but unnecessary to complete the routine. This was not helpful to the user and complicated the process. So it was really important to limit myself to only what was necessary.
Moving forward, I do believe a few things could be improved. For example, the image could have better expressed the note to avoid the eye area. Especially since this was an important note, it could have been further emphasized by an additional step. I would also re-evaluate the colour scheme. I am unsure how practical these instructions would be to someone with green-red colour blindness. It may affect readability.
